DC Decanter Centrifuge and Its Feeding Pump

Aug 28, 2013

Decanter centrifuge, also referred to as a brand new type of horizontal decanter centrifuge, is one of the most important solid/liquid separation equipment in a solids control system. It can integrate each of the working procedures-feeding, centrifugal settling, unloading, and so on. Not to mention it truly is utilized for removing fine solids, recovering barites, lowering the solids content controlling the density and viscosity associated with the drilling flare ignition device to assure the fluids’ efficiency and also boost the drilling efficiency.

There are several types of decanter centrifuges currently utilized in the industry. The commonest of which are vertical, horizontal and conveyor centrifuges. The principle behind a decanter centrifuge is based on the theory of gravitational separation, for example, if you fill a glass with a mixture of mud and water, over time the weight of the mud will cause it to settle down at the bottom of the glass. With the mud congealed at the bottom, the water will be pushed upwards, creating a clear separation between the two.

Working Principle of DC Decanter Centrifuge

A centrifuge works on the principle of accelerated settling. By imparting additional G-forces to the content of a centrifuge, solids ( in a solids-laden fluid ) will settle much faster. To understand how a decanting centrifuge works after desilter, first look at a simple sedimentation vessel. Solids in this fluids will settle at the bottom of the vessel over a period of time. One way to speed up the process of settling is to reduce the height of the vessel, so the solids do not have as far to drop. If a specific volume is required, the vessels dimensions can be lengthened or widened. Depending on the rheological properties of the fluids and the size and density of the solids, settling time can still prove quite slow.

Screw pump is for feeding decanter centrifuge. Screw pump is a positive displacement pump that uses one or several screws to move fluids or solids along the screw axis. It is an ideal pump for feeding decanter centrifuge. The major benefit to use a positive displacement pump is that it will not break the fine solids to smaller, so the centrifuge can separate the solids easily. Centrifugal force of centrifugal pump will cut the solids to smaller, it is not good for centrifuge’ s operation.
