Three Kinds of Impellers for Drillig Mud Agitator

A mud agitator is used in surface mud systems to suspend solids and maintain homogeneous mixture throughout the system. A mechanical agitator is driven by an explosion-proof motor, coupled to a gear box that drives the impeller shaft. The impellers ( turbines ) transform mechanical power into fluid circulation or agitation. The objective is to obtain a uniform suspension of all solids. The agitator is an important part of the mud solids control system. It is mounted on the circulating mud tank. The vanes of the agitator dip into the mud to agitate the fluid uniformly. There are mainly two  types of agitator mounting. They are horizontally mounted agitator and vertically mounted agitator.

KOSUN Agitators are available with three types of impellers: flat impeller, canted impeller & contour impeller.

Flat impeller, because of its high shearing force, is suitable to be used in the active mud system compartment, such as solids removal section, mud mixing section, and slug pits while low shear contour impeller is ideal in the bulk storage & suction compartment.

For active mud system compartments less than 5 feet high ( 1.52 meter ), as it is not much deep, flat impeller should be used to generate radial flow in the drilling fluids. If the impeller is properly located, it will produce axial flow on the mud flow in the compartment and suspension will be adequate for most applications.

If the tank is higher than 5 feet, an 60° angle canted impeller will be used to produce radial flow & axial flow. If the tank is higher than 12 feet ( 3.66 meters ), two or more impellers will be used in combination on the shaft.

To keep both the mud uniformity and the suspension of solids, the mud agitator is used to agitate the mud consecutively and reliably. This agitator agitates the mud to make cuttings, silt and sand pass the solids control system without being deposited at the tank bottom. Due to the simplex turbine decelerator, this product is featured by compact construction, light weight, balanced transmission, low noise, high efficiency of transmission and strong agitating power. Therefore, it is a reliable product in the solids control system.
